Tshepang Jasper Selapyana, an actor/tv and radio personality best known as Magwinya for his role in the SABC 2 soapie Giyani Land of blood was born and raised at a remote village of Mukondeni ha Mashamba which is situated on the outskirt of Elim in Vhembe district limpopo. Spent a better part of his teenage days in the same village schooling..
Yes we all know he is fluent in all limpopo dialects and to add to his language proficiency Tshepang can also speak Zulu, Tswana and Sotho. When asked why or how is it possible that he fluent in almost all SA languages , he said .”We are a very diverse nation and therefore it should be everyone ‘s interest to learn about other tribes and their languages, i think that’s what being a South African mean”.
His journey in the media industry
“I was very shy person , but always wanting to be heard. So i explored radio as a tool to make people listen to me, however radio evoked acting in me which i followed . My dreams became a reality when I join Makhado FM community station for some years . I later join Energy fm , in both station I worked in the news department and as dj presenter .”
His experience in radio roused acting in him , that’s when he joined agency that offered him with acting lessons. Going from different auditions without success, he never gave up.His first acting break was when got call back to play Dr Tshikovha on Muvhango .
He also made a brief feature on Isithembiso , Generation the legacy and played a body double on Imposter. He is currently hosting a lifestyle magazine program called Nhlala ya Rixaka on sabc2.
“Playing different role helps me to build my name and to experience challenges that different people face in their lives , because what we portray as actors is everyday life to others .”
What do you love more between acting and radio ?
Tshapang says he loves radio more because it is all about you , you do not have to be someone else but yourself and In acting you should live someone’s life .
“my biggest dream is to have my own in-house acting studio ”
